Possibly the most recognisable muscle car in India, the Ford Mustang combines muscle with style like few other four-wheelers do. Ford unveiled the European-spec 2018 Mustang GT in September 2017, with a sleek new design. And now comes the news that the car has been spotted at a Ford stockyard in India!
This can only mean that the car will be on sale in India soon, likely this year. The new Mustang boasts a more sophisticated engine, along with updates to the suspension and the driver assistance technology. The car will not be present at the Auto Expo, given Ford’s decision to give the biennial event a miss, so the wait shall continue a bit longer.
The profile of the car is easy to recognise; its more-athletic appearance is enhanced by LED lighting, a wide palette of exterior colours and new options for alloy wheel design. The engine remains a V8 5.0-litre petrol pumping out upwards of 400 PS, mated to a new 10-speed automatic transmission. First-time highlights in the car include adaptive cruise control, distance alert, as well as lane departure warning and lane keeping aid; all these and more contribute to the improved Euro NCAP safety rating for the Mustang.
The engine roar is something auto enthusiasts absolutely adore, but neighbours often abhor! To take care of this, the 2018 Mustang could be equipped with the ‘Good Neighbour Mode’ or Quiet Mode’, which cuts the sporty rasp of the exhaust to a more bearable level, to minimise the inconvenience of too much noise too late in the day.
Considering the affinity of global auto brands to bring the best of their technology to the Indian market, most – if not all – of the aforementioned tech should be seen in the 2018 Mustang in India. So, hold on to your horses for a bit, and let them loose when the icon arrives later this year!
