An adaptation of the 1839 novel, Confessions of a Thug, the film Thugs of Hindostan is apparently YRF Studios’ most ambitious project yet.

So much so, that the film is reportedly being edited not on standard monitors but on a special preview screen at the Yash Raj Studio so that the editors can get everything right. The film is also special because it is the first collaboration between Amir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan that also stars Katrina Kaif, Fatima Sana Sheikh and directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya of Dhoom 3 fame.

The makers of the film revealed Amitabh Bachchan’s first look as Khudabaksh on today, after the logo was revealed on September 17. The studio is going all out to promote the film and is releasing individual motion posters for every star of the film.

The motion poster of Amitabh’s avatar was shared by Aamir Khan on his Twitter handle, stating, “The biggest thug of all !!! Love, a.”

With its emerald green hue and dark tints, the film is being called India’s answer to Pirates of the Caribbean. The animated logo for Thugs of Hindostan has a sort-of similar iconography, with swords and emblems merging into each other to reveal the steely title.

Thugs of Hindostan has been budgeted at approximately Rs 300 crore. The film has been shot aboard ships, too. Two mammoth ships, weighing two lakh kilos, were built by over 1,000 people, including international designers and ship makers. Said an insider, “Since sea and ships play an integral part in the plot, Aamir as well as (producer) Aditya Chopra were sure that they would go all out to present the biggest spectacle that Hindi cinema has ever witnessed.”
