Yep – you got that right! Bollywood’s Bhai a.k.a. Salman Khan has been convicted in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case, with a jail term of five years. He was also fined Rs 10,000, while his co-actors Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Tabu and Neelam Kothari were acquitted. He has been charged with killing the antelopes protected under the Wildlife Protection Act while shooting for the film ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’ in 1998.
Salman has applied for bail in the Sessions Court, which will take up the plea at 10:30am on Friday. He also has the option of appealing against his conviction in the Rajasthan High Court, within a period of 90 days. He can seek bail on the grounds of his continuous cooperation or the huge sums involved in his upcoming movies (nearly Rs 500 crore is at stake in his upcoming movies).
