There’s something about the Punjabi dhol – its rhythm has the power to take over your senses and give your feet (and your shoulders) a mind of their own as they begin to tap and dip to the beat. And since no celebration in India is ever complete without music, the country’s national carrier, Air India, tapped into some dhol magic to celebrate the re-launch of direct non-stop flights between Amritsar and Birmingham. Passengers boarding the inaugural flight in Birmingham were in for a special treat – a suprise performance by a troupe of dhol players! Attired in colourful Punjabi ensembles, the enthusiastic players regaled their audience with peppy numbers that had each and every one of them cheering!
A video posted on Facebook by Dhol Blasters captures the excitement and upbeat energy permeating the aircraft before take-off, as the passengers and dhol players revel in their newfound excitement and enthusiasm.

Vishwanath Panyam, Manager – Birmingham, Air India, said in an official statement: “The addition of Amritsar is great news for our passengers offering greater choice, flexibility and convenience. The celebrations for the inaugural flight yesterday were fantastic and show the amount of excitement and support for this route.”
Air India has resumed direct non-stop flights between Amritsar in Punjab and Birmingham in the UK after eight years. We think that calls for some dhol magic indeed!
