People Notice There’s Something Wrong With The Rock’s New Movie Poster, And Things Escalate Quickly
Soon after Dwayne Johnson shared a poster on Twitter for his upcoming action-adventure film Skyscraper, Twitterati went berserk! Slated for a summer 2018 release, the ‘original concept’ film (or so The Rock claims) will see his character Will Ford, a former FBI Hostage Rescue Team leader, who now assesses security for skyscrapers. In the poster, Johnson can be seen jumping from one skyscraper to another but that didn’t go well with Twitterati, who have called it ‘The Rock-et’ jump, especially with the geeks, who have gone all out with laws of physics and complex mathematics to mock this stunt.

We’re all willing to sacrifice it all when it comes to protecting our families.
Here’s the first look at our original concept film, #SKYSCRAPER.
THIS SUNDAY during the #SuperBowl you’ll see how far one man will go to protect his wife and children. #SKYSCRAPER SUMMER 2018 pic.twitter.com/IvFGptLb67

I’ve mocked up some parabolas for The Rock’s SKYSCRAPER jump. Red is assuming he jumped up a bit first; green assuming he ran forward and somehow didn’t lose momentum; yellow for a sort of squat-thrust thing.
Whichever you choose, rest in peace The Rock, as you are dead now. pic.twitter.com/cAytzrWMRW

So I did some science.
Assuming that there is no "jump-off" (which seems to be optimal here)
We can determine that the Rock would need to leave the platform at 12.7 meters per second (appr. 28.4 mph)
For comparison, Usain Bolt's fastest recorded speed is 27.4 mph. pic.twitter.com/GruWcbtEAN

You’re assuming he’s jumping from right to left. Maybe he’s been blown out of the building by an explosion and is about to be impaled on some crane. pic.twitter.com/eN5RkqdlXS

Couldn't he have been accelerating towards the end of the jump, the height of the approach wouldn't need to be as high with sufficient horizontal inertia? A world class longjump is 10 meters, DTRJ is 1.9 meters tall, the whole thing is about 12 meters across… he could do it. pic.twitter.com/LWKwWrXxDD

You forgot to take into account the strength of his massive thighs and jumping horizontally mid-fall, I’ll fix that for you. pic.twitter.com/cjiIvVdAGx

This is not the first time Johnson has garnered such kind of attention. His previous films too have turned him into a superhero, especially when it comes to his disaster films. Add to that, these films make humongous amounts at the box-office. San Andreas (The Rock versus an earthquake) earned $155 million domestic and $474m worldwide, making it Warner Bros. biggest global grosser in 2015 and the biggest grossing “not based on anything” live-action release of that year. Central Intelligence, which was an action comedy starring Johnson and Kevin Hart, earned $127m domestic and $216m on a $50m, was by default the year’s second-biggest grossing wholly original live-action movie in North America.
Skyscraper is an upcoming American action thriller film directed and written by Rawson M. Thurber. The film stars Dwayne Johnson, Neve Campbell, Chin Han, Roland Møller, Pablo Schreiber, Byron Mann, Hannah Quinlivan, and Noah Taylor. Filming started September 2017 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It will be released in 3D by Universal Pictures on July 13, 2018. Scroll down to check out if that impossible jump is too big even for The Rock himself and feel free to watch the trailer for the movie below:
