A fiery group of prisoners coming together to form a musical band that sets them free. Sound familiar? If you’ve watched the trailers of Farhan Akhtar-starrer Lucknow Central and YRF’s Qaidi Band, you might be a bit confused right now. And we don’t blame you. The apparent plot-lines of both movies are uncannily similar. And we aren’t the only ones to have noticed.
If the reports doing the rounds are anything to go by, Lucknow Central’s release – originally slated for September 15 – might be pulled back to combat Qaidi Band, which is slated for an August 25 release.
While the storyline of Lucknow Central has been known for some time now, courtesy media reports and sneak-peeks ever since the film was announced, Qaidi Band seems to have popped in out of nowhere with promotions in full swing and newbies Aadar Jain (or Kapoor – use the name or don’t, it’s quite obvious how important his family tree is, even to the makers) and Anya Singh all over the Internet.
Interestingly, five basic plot tropes in the trailers of both movies are exactly the same. There is that wide-angle shot of the jail to set the stage, the lead-character-under-trial-in-court scene, the thrilling escape attempt, the smattering of violence and the arch-enemy jailer, albeit played to starkly different notes by Ronit Roy in Lucknow Central and Sachin Pilgaonkar in Qaidi Band.
