In terms of the written text, Harry Potter and A Song of Fire and Ice have nothing in common. But cut to the movie and television version respectively of Rowling’s magnum opus and George RR Martin’s imaginative, albeit gory novel, Game of Thrones, and you will find faces you’ve spotted in both!
In the Harry Potter movie franchise, Bradley roamed the Hogwarts corridors as the surly and ill-tempered caretaker, Argus Filch. In GOT, he plays an equally dislikable character in Lord Walder Frey, who sets up the Red Wedding to get back at Robb Stark for breaking his oath to marry one of his daughters.
Tena appeared as Nymphadora Tonks in the last four Harry Potter movies and as the wildling Osha in GOT. Interestingly, her character in the movie as well as the TV show dies trying to save another character. Yes, tears were shed.
Hinds left a memorable impression as Albus Dumbledore’s estranged younger brother, Aberforth, in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. In GOT he plays Mance Rayder, the King Beyond the Wall, once a brother of the Night’s Watch and a Southerner before becoming a Free Folk.
Stroma appears in the sixth Harry Potter movie (Half Blood Prince) as Cormac McLaggen, who develops quite a crush on Hermoine. He plays the role of Dickon Tarly, the younger brother of Samwell Tarly, in the sixth season of GOT. Although both roles were relatively small, his performance was appreciated.
You may have missed her in the blink-and-you-miss-it scene as Mrs Granger (Hermoine’s mother) in the first cinematic installment of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. But you cannot miss Fairley as Catelyn Stark, the widow of Eddard Stark, Lord of Winterfell, in GOT.
