Well, almost! The Menlo Park-based search giant – rather, Internet giant – now offers a special Symptom Search feature. The aim is to make users understand their medical symptoms better, and get access to the right information about their condition.
For instance, if a user were to type “cough and body ache”, the app will throw up (!) results like common cold, acute bronchitis, flu, pneumonia, chest infection or others.
The press statement from Google says the following: “For individual symptoms like ‘सिरदर्द ‘ the app will show digital cards providing users an overview description along with information on self-treatment options and what might warrant a doctor’s visit.”
The results should be pretty authentic. The company has tied up with Apollo Hospitals and is working with a small team of doctors to generate results. In a press statement, Sangita Reddy, Joint Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited, said, “The abundant experience and expertise of our consultants was drawn towards providing clinical validation of the symptoms to spread the message of awareness and prevention of diseases. With the launch of the Symptom Search Project, we aim to provide quality healthcare information which can be accessed by a billion Indians.”
So, the next time a health symptom bothers you, Google away!
