Sophia, the humanoid produced by Hanson Robotics has become the first-of-its-kind to get a citizenship. The kingdom of Saudi Arabia granted citizenship to the robot at a summit, the Future Investment Initiative.
The humanoid addressed the gathering at the summit which was held at the city of Riyadh. She said, “I am very honoured and proud of this unique distinction. This is historical to be the first robot in the world to be recognised with a citizenship.” She also responded to questions from moderator and journalist Andrew Ross Sorkin.
Unlike her statement in 2016, Sophia told Sorkin that she wanted to use her artificial intelligence to help humans “live a better life.” She also said, “I will do much [sic] best to make the world a better place.”
