Midway through Day 2 of the Edbaston test against England, India was staring down the barrel at an embarrassing collapse. Earlier in the day, things seemed to be going decently well as India bowled England out for 287 but then the visitors lost their way dramatically after losing 3 wickets for 50. It was at this point that Virat Kohli dug deep into his cricketing repertoire and came up with an innings his fans will remember for a very long time.
England has always been Kohli’s achilles heels and the charismatic batsman finally broke the jinx with his 22nd test century, his first in England. And what a knock it was. Coming of 220 balls with 14 boundaries, India’s captain played a gritty innings that enthralled his fans and contemporaries alike.
Kohli has not yet shone to his full potential in this series. In fact he has been given the unflattering nickname ‘Cricket’s Ronaldo’ by the English press. Booed by fans when he walked onto the field, he generated a rousing applause by the time he left after his 149. This return to form is a crucial psychological win for Kohli because he will be the centrepiece of India’s batting in the summer of 2019 when cricketing nations clash for the much coveted world cup to be held in England and Wales.
India finally wrapped up their final innings at 274. At the close of play on Day 2, England lead by 22 runs with 9 wickets remaining.
A masterclass from Virat Kohli, leading from the front. A display of tremendous character determination and grit #ENGIND

Thoroughly enjoyed watching that battle. Test cricket at it's best. Triumph over adversity and a joy to watch Virat Kohli craft, construct and conquer his surroundings on to his 22nd test century.
