The much-acclaimed, much-talked-of movie Lipstick Under My Burkha continues to notch up more milestones! Now, it is customers of Amazon’s Prime Video service who have cause to cheer, as the Prakash Jha Productions’ film is available (from August 15 onwards) exclusively on Prime Video within just a few weeks of its theatrical release, and will not be shown on regular terrestrial or satellite TV channels. Prime Video members from India and other SAARC nations get to enjoy this privilege.
A tale of four feisty women exploring their sexuality and satiating their desires through small courageous and rebellious acts, the movie has received rave reviews from movie critics and done well on the film festival circuit. Of course, audiences have loved it! Says producer Prakash Jha: “We are thrilled that Lipstick Under My Burkha will be streaming exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. There are so many people who want to watch the film, and they can all do so comfortably now.” According to the director Alankrita Shrivastava, “It is a fabulous way for people to easily access the film and to give the film a long, long life. For people who have never seen it, and people who want to see it again, people who wrote in saying there were no theatres in their town playing the film, people from neighbouring countries… the film will just be a click away.”
The honours for Lipstick Under My Burkha are aplenty! The movie has received more than 11 international awards; global recognition across over 35 renowned international film festivals such as Tokyo International Film Festival, Glasgow International Film Festival, Miami International Film Festival, Shanghai IFF, and Cairo IFF; and it was the opening film at the Los Angeles Indian Film Festival, which was also an official Hollywood Foreign Press Association Screening that made the film eligible for the Golden Globes.
