Call us old school but we screamed like little kids (read hooting and cheering accompanied by a thunderous applause) when Milind Soman took the ramp for Nida Mahmood on the first day of the Amazon India Fashion Week. But here’s the catch – the supermodel was just not the showstopper of Mahmood’s collection. The designer has, infact, collaborated with Soman’s fitness brand Deivee to create a line of athleisure wear. We were too busy gushing over him to notice his girlfriend among the guests at the show.
The collection is a reflection of Mahmood’s design aesthetics – fun, easy to wear, colourful, quirky and vibrant. It has been created keeping in mind the needs of Indian women who want to exercise but do not find the appropriate garments to do their workout in.
Just to show how versatile the pieces of the collection are, the line-up of models included Dolly Singh, a plus size yoga teacher who promotes body diversity and body positivity; Anshu Jensempa, world record holder who climbed Mt Everest twice within 5 days and 98 year old V Nanammal, India’s oldest yoga teacher. The icing on the cake was 101-year-old Mann Kaur, who holds the world record for 100 metres for her age category. She jogged the entire length of the ramp and danced in happiness at the end.
