Y-Films is on a roll, and how! First, they introduced the 6-Pack Band, India’s first transgender band two years ago, winning hearts the world over. The band sang the cover of Pharrell Williams’ Happy, and collaborated with Sonu Nigam on a beautiful song about acceptance titled Sab Rab de bande, remember?
Now, this youth films’ wing of Yash Raj Films has introduced the 6-Pack Band 2.0, comprising differently-abled members to create awareness about the importance of mental health and disability. Celebrated director-producer Karan Johar joined this cause to change the way we perceive children with special abilities. He introduced the ‘isspeshal’ band and its members – six teenagers between the ages of 13 and 18 with special needs but incredible music skills.
The young band walked straight into our hearts with their first song Jhakkad pakkad dance. Head of Y-Films, Ashish Patil says, “Y-Films has always created content that does more than just entertain. Be it for gender equality, LGBTQ support or sex education – we’ve been at the forefront in getting these important messages across in the most fun manner. Being a parent of a special child myself [his son Rishaan is one of the members of the band], the theme of mental health and disability is extremely close to my heart. I know what one goes through as the world judges these kids day in and day out. But I’ve also learnt from my son how to take that with a smile, to accept everyone as they are and to spread happiness unconditionally. With 6-Pack Band 2.0 we really hope to show everyone how these kids are the missing puzzle pieces this world needs to complete itself!”
And their next song, with popular musician Vishal Dadlani is a recreation of one of Yash Raj’s most popular tracks – the title track of Dil to Pagal Hai. An ecstatic Dadlani says, “I may have spent only a few hours with these kids, but these kids have changed the way I look at the world. It’s overwhelming to see these geniuses succeed because I know they deserve this and a lot more. I’m only happy that I got to share a few moments of the spotlight with them, making me a part of their jigsaw puzzle.”
