When it’s festival time, last-minute travellers are a harried lot. Of the total traveller pool, 40 per cent are from this category, and they make their bookings just a week in advance of their intended travel dates. In this process, often they end up paying nearly 15 per cent more than the average fare.
Some careful watching can help, though. Two weeks ahead of the festival, air fares from New Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru see a drop (of about 20, 15 and 6 per cent respectively), before then rising sharply just a week prior to the festival (by 12, 6 and 15 per cent respectively). Incidentally, travel outward from Bengaluru is more expensive on an average than from New Delhi or Mumbai.
