It was after more than a decade that designer-duo Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla returned with a bridal line created entirely in pristine white. And who best to showcase the finest piece in the collection than their favourite, Sonam Kapoor? She took to the ramp in a classic chikankari embroidered lehenga in ivory and a Victorian era inspired blouse with a ruffled collar and sheer sleeves.
“The inspiration for Sonam’s lehenga was a handkerchief I picked up for my mother from Borneo,” says Khosla.
It was a truly star-studded affair at the JW Marriot in Aerocity, New Delhi with celebrities such as Jaya Bachchan, Shweta Bachchan Nanda, Amrita Singh, Sara Ali Khan and Shahnaz Hussain in attendance. The collection, launched in association with ‘Shaadi by Marriott’ – a destination wedding promotion by the hospitality property – featured fabrics that ranged from organza and silk to Duchess satin and georgette. The special wedding line comprised resplendent lehengas, classic ghagras, pleated shirts, layered sherwanis, sarees and skirts.
“Much of this collection has been inspired by our travels in Paris and we have used the colours of the French national flag – red, white and blue – in a few of our designs,” Khosla adds.
