A major segment of Indian twitterati went ballistic this Tuesday, 31st of July, when Shah Rukh Khan, at the Vogue Beauty Awards 2018, launched Vogue India’s latest cover for August 2018. The reason? Suhana Khan’s debut as the cover model for the issue.
Questions were raised on Suhana’s merits, her credibility, why she deserved to be on there. While most people came up with suggestions/alternatives who were more deserving, most of the population couldn’t help but point this out as another example of the play of nepotism in Bollywood.
In the past one year, since Kangana Ranaut’s infamous KWK episode, fans of Bollywood have not left any opportunity to point out the convenient, hassle-free lives that star kids enjoy. Most of the new lot of Bollywood actors enjoy a strong gene pool and a celebrity name to their credit which acts as their entry pass to the industry, sometimes becoming more important than their acting abilities. This year, Chunky Pandey’s daughter Ananya is making her debut with K Jo’s Student of the Year 2, Sunny Deol is producing Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas to launch his son Karan, while Jhanvi Kapoor and Ishan Khattar starrer Dhadak, even though criticised and bombed for ruining Sairat’s image, crossed the 100 crore mark. Waiting in the wings now are sons Ahan Shetty and Aryan Khan for their turn.
Suhana Khan modelled for Vogue India’s August cover and in her interview has talked about her relationship with her father, her future acting aspirations, and her struggles as a star kid. The last bit is where the common citizen of India lost their last bit of diplomacy and came outright mocking Suhana’s words and Vogue’s publicity stunt for her. There were also musings that this stint was probably another brain-child of Karan Johar’s who is said to have personally taken on responsibility for both the Khan kids’ acting careers.
Joining in on the scene and putting in their two cents, the venture East India Comedy went on to make a prediction of who will take on the next cover of Time Magazine and to nobody’s surprise it is the Pataudi Nawab’s heir, more famous than both his parents combined, Taimur Ali Khan.
