A nine year-old girl from Tamil Nadu is winning hearts all over the country for her kindness and spirit of generosity.
Anupriya from Villupuram had been saving since the past four years to buy her dream bicycle. So far she had managed to accumulate ₹9,000. But when she came across the news of the devastation that the floods had inflicted on the state of Kerala, she decided to part with her precious savings.
“I had saved money (of around ₹9000) for over four years to buy a cycle. But I saw visuals of Kerala flood on televisions and decided to give the money,” (towards relief activities) she told reporters.
Her gesture was noticed by a Twitter user who then tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh and the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Palaniswami in a status to draw their attention to this incident.
In between, India’s largest manufacturer of bicycles, Hero Cycles too took notice of this and applauded Anupriya’s gesture.
Hero Cycles then, promised to deliver a bicycle of her choice cost-free as appreciation for her donation.
“Dear Anupriya, We appreciate your gesture to support humanity in the hour of need. You would get a brand new cycle from us. Please DM your address or contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. @PankajMMunjal”. They said in a tweet.
Congress MP from Kerala, Shashi Tharoor, welcomed the company’s gesture. “Thanks to HeroCycles for donating a bicycle to a 9-year-old girl who gave up all that she was saving for a cycle to help the victims of the #KeralaFloods,” he said in a tweet.
The state of Kerala has been facing severe floods under monsoon rains, damage to property and life, and excessive trauma since the past two week. Over 7.14 lakh people have been displaced from their homes.
Anupriya giving up her savings of four years has also inspired a lot of people to donate to the Kerala CM’s Disaster Relief Fund as well.
