Twinkle Khanna, popularly known as Mrs Funny Bones, shares how in her early years of marital negotiations she informed her husband Akshay that she will never share her toilet!
As fans wait with bated breath for the release of Akshay Kumar-starrer Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, which narrates the story of a man who fights to build a toilet in his house in order to save his marriage, Twinkle, in her weekly blog for a leading daily, shared an interesting anecdote pertaining to the toilet in her own home.
She wrote, “In the early years of marital negotiations I had briskly informed the man of the house, ‘Darling, I will share my heart, my body, my life, and though it annoys me, I will even share my food with you, but I will never share my toilet!'”
The 43-year-old mother of two also shared an incident that sowed the seeds of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in her heart. “I am a boarding school product who had to live in a dusty dorm with 40 girls, 40 beds and 4 toilets. My fixation with having my own bathroom arose from a rather distressing event. On weekends we were allowed to change out of our green uniforms to what was called ‘coloured clothes’. My favourite outfit was a blue silk dress. After wearing it during the day, I would soak the dress in a bucket on Sunday evening and put it out to dry. One particular weekend, I forgot to take it out of the bucket. The next morning I discovered that some wretched girl, unwilling or unable to stand in the long queue to the toilet, had defecated in the bucket on top of my silk dress! That was the day that the seeds of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan were sown in my young heart. I gathered a few girls and made four picket signs with a red marker pen that stated: BMC – Build More Commodes! We protested outside the principal’s office and were promptly thrown into detention,” she wrote.
She shares many such interesting incidents on her blog. Akshay Kumar shared the piece on Twitter too, and wrote, “Here I thought she was promoting my film Toilet – Ek Prem Katha but…”
