Veteran actor Shashi Kapoor passed away on Monday December 4, 2017 at the age of 79. Let us have a look at some lesser known facts from his life.
Shashi Kapoor made his first appearance as a child artist in 1948’s Aag and 1951’s Awaara.
In July 1958, he married the English actress Jennifer Kendal and they acted in a number of films together.
He worked as an assistant director in Sunil Dutt’s debut movie Post Box 999.
On international front, he was one of the early actors to start acting. He was seen in international projects including ‘The Householder’ and ‘Shakespeare-Wallah’.
He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2011 and was conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2015 by Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley.
He has received National Film Awards in 1979, 1986 and 1994 and was awarded the Filmfare Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2010.
He has acted in several hit films like ‘Kabhie Kabhie’ and ‘Jab Jab Phool Khile’, which were shot in Kashmir. His son Kunal Kapoor said in a report that his father would try to schedule his outdoor shooting schedules to coincide with the kids’ school holidays. “If he packed up early, we’d go out for lunches, long walks, shikara rides and even picnics,” he added.
In 1991, Shashiji had directed a film called ‘Ajooba’ that starred Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role.
He did not appear in any film since 1998. He was seen at the ‘Shashi Kapoor Film Festival’ held in Muscat, Oman in September 2007.
