The WhatsApp Business App will help small businesses to communicate effectively with their customers.
WhatsApp Business App is now available for use in India. It was launched in Italy, Indonesia, Mexico, the US and the UK, last week. This app targets small and medium business enterprises (SMEs) and is limited to Android platform, as of now. WhatsApp claims that with this app, it will become “easier for companies to connect with customers, and more convenient for our 1.3 billion users to chat with businesses that matter to them.”
What it does?
Businesses will be able to give a short description about their company profile along with their profile picture, store address, email address, mobile number, website link and other details in their ‘Business Profile’. This will help the organisation to reach out to their customers real-time.
How is it different?
Besides the business description option, businesses can also customise greeting messages for new customers and also set “away” messages for times when the company is busy. For companies that use the desktop version of this app, they can also get to know the number of messages that have been read using the metrics system.
Another notable feature is that it allows businesses to give prompt replies and answers to its customers!
The app allows companies to share their active location with the customers, so it becomes easier for clients to track them. Besides this, they can also place voice and video calls with the company in order to gain better insight. Notably, the end-to-end encryption feature of messages and calls ensures that the data will not be accessible by any third party.
Customers can continue using their original WhatsApp account and do not need to download anything new. They can also have full autonomy over the messages they receive with the ability to report spam or block any number, including businesses.
WhatsApp plans to verify business accounts in the future. Verified accounts will have a green tick with their profile. But if a user’s number is registered with a normal WhatsApp account, they will have to delink it in order to register the same number on the business number.
The App is compatible with devices that run on Android 4.0.3 or above. WhatsApp also plans to roll out similar features for iPhone users, soon!
The new app is now available for free download with Google Play Store. It has already crossed over 500,000 downloads on the store after the global launch, last week. The plan to launch this app dates back to September lat year when a pilot app was launched in partnership with Netflix, BookMyShow and MakeMyTrip.
The WhatsApp messaging app is used by over 1.3 billion users worldwide. It had recently tested “scam alert” tool which will help users to identify hoax messages by sending out a “Forwarded Many Times” warning at the top of the chat. This feature, that everyone of us has been looking forward to, is still in its testing mode.
