WhatsApp’s UPI based payment feature is now available on select Android and iOS users.
The beta version of WhatsApp’s UPI payment option allows selected Android and iOS users to receive and send money. The option for payment will be accessible from the chat window along with other options like Video, Gallery, Documents etc.
In order to use this feature, users will have to click on the Payments option. This will lead to a disclaimer window where a list of banks will be displayed. Users will have to choose from this list of options in order to connect to UPI.
After this, users will be prompted to create a unique authentication pin. The catch is that, both the receiver and the sender need to have this feature available on their WhatsApp app to make a successful transaction.
The Facebook owned messaging app has almost 1.5 billion monthly users, out of which 200 million are Indians. Currently, this messaging app offers features like chatting, voice calling, video calling, and sending animated GIFs. With the Modi government’s focus on digital India, this new initiative by the messenger giant is all set to make the utmost use of its large user base to tap on this initiative.
This app is currently in its beta version and therefore users have reported certain issues while linking their bank details with the Payments option. This feature will be soon available for full use across platforms.
Earlier, WhatsApp had rolled out its new WhatsApp Business app which exclusively dealt with Middle and Small Enterprises and helped them to interact with their customers real time using features like company profile, video and voice call feature etc.
